Polyester Fiber

Polyester is the most widely produced synthetic textile fibre, valued for dimensional stability, strength and low maintenance. Ashelby International supplies polyester staple fibre for blending, non-woven manufacture, technical applications and fibre fill.

We supply polyester in deniers from 1.4 to 15, with cut lengths of 32 to 102mm and tenacity of 4.5 to 9.5 cN/dtex. The range is broad because polyester serves very different roles at each end of it. Fine deniers around 1.4 to 3 blend with cotton or viscose at apparel counts where hand feel matters. Coarser deniers toward 15 are specified for fibre fill, non-woven webs and technical constructions where bulk and resilience take priority over softness. Cut length is matched to the spinning system: shorter cuts for cotton-system spinning, longer for worsted and specialist processes.

Tenacity of 4.5 to 9.5 cN/dtex substantially exceeds that of cotton or viscose, which is why polyester is introduced into blends where wash durability and shape retention are required. Elongation of 25 to 45 per cent gives the fibre its recovery behaviour. Polyester is hydrophobic, so it dries quickly and resists staining from water-borne soils, and it is chemically resistant across most laundering conditions.
