Medical textiles are engineered for barrier performance, hygiene and patient safety rather than appearance, and are frequently governed by published standards. Ashelby International supplies medical textile materials and articles from 20 to 100 GSM in polypropylene and cotton.

Our range covers surgical gowns, face masks, bandages and hospital bedding. Weight is matched to function. At 20 to 40 GSM the material suits mask layers and lightweight disposable components, where breathability and filtration efficiency must be balanced. At 40 to 70 GSM it covers gown fabrics and drapes requiring fluid resistance. At 70 to 100 GSM it supports reusable articles and hospital bedding facing repeated high-temperature laundering and sterilisation.

Disposable and reusable constructions serve different economics. Disposables eliminate reprocessing and cross-contamination risk but carry ongoing unit cost and waste volume. Reusables cost more initially and require validated laundering, but are more economical over a service life and generate less waste -- increasingly a procurement consideration in its own right.
