Bamboo

Bamboo viscose is a regenerated cellulosic fibre produced from bamboo pulp, specified where softness, breathability and an environmental story are all required. Ashelby International supplies bamboo fibre for towelling, baby products and eco-positioned apparel.

We supply bamboo fibre in deniers of 1.2 to 1.5 with fibre lengths of 40 to 90mm, tenacity of 2.5 to 3.5 cN/dtex and elongation of 10 to 20 per cent. The fine denier range is what produces the fibre's characteristic softness -- at 1.2 to 1.5 denier the individual filaments are finer than typical cotton, giving a smoother surface against skin. Tenacity of 2.5 to 3.5 cN/dtex places it above standard viscose, making it more robust through processing and wear.

Bamboo fibre is highly breathable and thermally regulating, which is why it performs well in towelling, robes and warm-climate apparel. It is frequently specified for baby products where softness and gentleness against skin are the primary criteria.

A note on claims: bamboo fibre is widely marketed as antibacterial. Where a buyer intends to make that claim in a regulated market, it should be substantiated by testing on the finished article rather than asserted from the fibre type, as several jurisdictions have taken enforcement action over unsubstantiated bamboo claims.
